Sally Gilbert from Help@Hand was recommended to our family by a work colleague of my sister Rose. Rose had been mum’s primary carer and spent several months looking for a low-care place for our mum. However, a week before mum was due to move into the place we’d found, she was admitted to hospital and then reclassified as high-care and we had to start all over again. Knowing what was involved we felt overwhelmed, especially as we were both now working, so we engaged Sally to help us.
Sally arranged an initial meeting at our home. At this first meeting we discussed the type of place we wanted for mum in fairly specific detail, right down to preferred floor coverings, and the possibility of being able to wallpaper the room. A week or so later Sally called to make a time to take us to see two facilities she thought would suit mum. Both places ticked all our boxes – Sally had really “got” what we were looking for – and we put mum on the waiting list. Over the next couple of months Sally continued to keep our mum in mind and arranged to take us to see several more facilities which, once again, were exactly what we were looking for.
Sally is warm and friendly and always professional. She has a lovely manner, and is compassionate and supportive. Sally is very committed to what she does. As well as finding and showing us suitable places, Sally took responsibility for lodging paperwork on our behalf, and negotiated on our behalf. Sally undertook to be the point of contact for the hospital staff where mum was a patient, and even popped in to visit mum when she called in at the hospital. Sally always offered to drive us on days we looked at facilities.
Sally found a room for mum at the facility which was our first choice. Mum has now moved in and our family couldn’t be more pleased with the way things have turned out.
With Sally we just went with the flow – things were always calm, and we knew we were in good hands. During the entire process we didn’t ever feel that we had to worry about anything. Having Sally helping us was like having another sister in the family during this time. We couldn’t recommend Sally highly enough.
